AUCKLAND FILLY SCORES HER SECOND WIN

The Auckland-owned filly Black Renarde was backed with confidence to win the Borough Hack Handicap at Marton on Saturday, and the daughter of Foxbridge pulled -her backers through, although it was a close call, as she only scored bv a head from the second favourite, High Class. This made the second win on end for Black Ttenarde. as she was successful at the Egmont meeting a week previous. Until a few days before that fixture Black Renarde was trained at Ellerslie by P. Eva, but she was then sent south and went into O. Cox's stable. Later the filly will return to Auckland. FROM STONYHURBT Mr. S. J. Newland. Wellington, has purchased from the Clifford Estate the three-year-old gelding Straight Left, by Winning Hit from Competition, a Polazel mare from Rivalry. The horse has joined up with P. Reardon's team at Trentham. Straight Left, a typical son of Winning Hit, has never raced. REDUCING THE FIELDS In order to reduce the fields at some of the Melbourne meetings a horse cannot be nominated unless a winner of £140 in one race. This will weed out some horses and force them to race at provincial meetings.
