(0 -C.) SUVA, May 18. By a notice in the Gazette of May 12, the Government has imposed curfew regulations as from June 1 next. L nder these regulations no persons (with certain exceptions) may be out ot doors between the hours of 11.30 da?" 3nC * a - m - of the succeeding Three areas are affected. SuvaDa yuile v u - Nausori,- Nadi - Lautoka and Momi area, and permits will be needed by all persons who are required by their duties to travel in the restricted areas during the curfew hours. A photograph is required on these permits, but no photograph will be necessary on a permit issued for a specific occasion. Observance of the curfew is not expected to cause much individual inconvenience, as there are very few ■social fixtures during the blackout. It is, however, expected to keep people who have no business off the streets, and by easy detection and arrest act as a deterrent to burglars and prowlers. Meatless Days Abandoned Suva has been having two meatless days a week for some time, but these restrictions have now been lifted, and the public can buy meat six days a week as formerly. The restriction caused a good deal of inconvenience, especially to the poorer sections of the community, as meat will not keep in the tropics and there has been a shortage of ice owing to conserving petrol, and restricted deliveries for this reason. There has also been a severe shortage of fish, and when a load came into the market it was snapped up quickly by wholesalers, to the disappointment of natives, whose staple article of diet it is, and who wait at the market for hours in the hope of securing some fish. The Government has now issued an order under the defence regulations that no sale of fish exceeding 41b in weight can take place in Suva, so that any future supplies of fish may be properly distributed amongst the people.
