REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK

The satisfactory state of the finances was referred to by the chairman, Sir James Gunson. when moving the adoption of the annual report at the annual meeting of the Auckland Veterans' Home Board yesterday.

The annual report stated that from a revenue of £3501 there remained a credit balance of £'3 15 at March 31 last. The total assets were £57,972. The administration work had proceeded harmoniously, and the general conduct and bearing of the veterans had been satisfactory. The number of inmates was 37, and 42 was about the limit of present accommodation. During the year two fire, escapes at a cost of .£350 had been provided in the form of substantial ramps from the top verandah of the building, as additional to existing fire escapes, and fire drill was held at intervals. Maintenance of the vegetable garden and grounds had been well cared for. Recently a visit had been paid to the home by the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newal-1, who had been much impressed.

The following retiring members of the committee were unanimously reelected—Sir James Gunson, Messrs. V. J. Larner, J. F. Ewen, Sir Henry Horton, Messrs. J. Marsden Caughev, H. T. Goldie and J. Stanton. Lieu-tenant-Colonel \V. J. M. Bouchier was elected a member of the board.

The Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. J. Park, stated that the Government had agreed to relay the whole of the cemetery plot for soldiers' graves at Waikaraka Cemetery.

Sir James Gunson expressed pleasure at tne attendance at the meeting of Bishop W. J. Simkin and Bishop J. M. Liston, and referred to the great interest which they took in the work of the home.
