JAPANESE DEBT
PAYMENT TO P,E SECURED Rec. noon. CANBERRA, this day. The Assistant-Minister of Commerce, Senator Eraser, announced that arrangements are being made to enable Japan to pay to Australia £260,000, an amount owing for wheat Japan bought from Australia before the outbreak of war. Every effort is being made to get the money, and there has been some progress. As soon as a settlement is reached the growers will be paid. The Minister said payment would be made from Japan's "frozen" assets.
