FALSE STATEMENT
NOT DRIVER OF CAR
COURT IMPOSES FINE OF £5
"My client carried out some Biblical precept instead of a precept of law. It was a mistaken act on his part and he was prepared to lake the penalty. He is sorry he misled a police officer," said Mr. Dickson when appearing for Harry Kelly, charged on summons, before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, with making a false statement to the police.
Kelly plcaced guilty
It was stated by Sub-Inspector Macnamara that on April 16, when Kellv's employer was before the Court for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a car, Kelly told a constable that he was the driver. •'When the police investigated the matter they found that this was quite untrue. I'rubably Kelly did this to try to save his employer,"' added Mr. Macnamara.
The magistrate imposed a line of £5.
