PROMOTED CAPTAIN
NEW ZEALANDER IN INDIA A New Zealander. Lieutenant Redmond Champtaloup. aged 22. formerly of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment. has been promoted to the rank of captain in the Rajputana Rifle Regiment., Indian Army, according to advice received by his parents, Mr. and .Mrs. K. M Champtaloup, Kj. Martin Avenue. Remuera. Captain Champtaloup took a keen interest in 1 ifle shooting, and. when he was regimental sergeant-major of the Auckland Grammar School Cadet
Battalion, he won the 1037 Auckland Territorial Championship Belt for rifle shooting, this being the first occasion on which a school cadet had annexed the open title. He also won the champion shot under 21 vears competition. The Rajputana Rifles have the' reputation of being the crack shots of India. After being commissioned in 1910. Captain Champtaloup was promoted in 1941. a few months before he resigned his New Zealand rank to enter the Indian Army.
