New Zealand Seamen On Bombed Ship In Arctic SURVIVORS NAMED Special Correspondent. Rec. 1 p.m. LONDON, May 27. Several New Zea landers were among the survivors from a which the Germans bombed in the Arctic regions. They included AbieSeamen H. T. Mace, J. T. Mitchell, P. G. Milliner, and B. Wallace (all of Auckland). K. Lipanovic and H. Mollard (North Auckland, B. S. Heal J. A. Livingstone (Wellington). J. M. Fraser, A. R. Pritchard and W. M. Carson (Dunedin), K. Cochrane and J. Kierman (Christchurch), R. Hannan (Oamaru), H. D. Moss (New Plymouth) and E. G. H. Lassen (Nelson) They were all picked up and returned to England safely. They spent much time in removing ice from the ship's decks during the voyage. It is estimated that the ship once had 60 tons of ice on her decks and upperworks. Sometimes the sea was warmer than the resulting in a perpetual "steaming." The crew was picked ' by destroyers," which steamed up "like taxis."
