LIBERTY LOAN APPEAL
MAYOR .URGES FULL SUPPORT
"I desire strongly to urge citizens to support the Liberty Loan, and immediately to make the maximum possible contributions to it." said the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allurn, this morning. "It is not a question of investing surplus money, out a straining of all resources to invest the maximum amount which the •individual's assets will permit. The money is wanted for the war effort. It is needed to equip and maintain New Zealand's sons in the fighting forces overseas, and here, at home. Our sons are making great sacrifices and, unhappily, many of them have made the supreme sacrifice in order that we may live in freedom. It is therefore not too much to insist that those of us who are not yet called upon to fight, shall provide the necessary money.
The loan must succeed, and the Government will be justified in taking all necessary steps to ensure that the money shall be found," continued Mr. Allum. "I repeat my appeal to citizens ta make the greatest possible sacrifice, in order that their contributions may be as large as possible. The terms of the loan are fair and reasonable, and it is well to remember that we must all make sacrifices, and perhaps great sacrifices, in order that we may retain something of what we now possess. To-day is the time for action. Tomorrow may be too late. I call on cltiaons once more to place Auckland at the head of contributors to this patriotic war effort."
