UNSELFISH ACT
WANTED NO RENT
BRIGADE STAFF GRATEFUL
Mrs. B. Orr, a North Auckland resident, is seen here with Brigadier D. E. Bremner, M.C., outside tho tent which has been her abode for some months. On mobilisation of the Territorial Army early in January she voluntarily relinquished her comfortable home so that it might become the residential quarters of a brigade headquarters staff. Mrs. Onleft her home fully furnished, complete with radio and other electrical equipment, to live in a tent. Later she reluctantly agreed to accept a nominal rental for her house. In gratitude for her patriotic self-sacri-fice the army has now built her a small hutment so that she may have some small measure of comfort on her bleak hillside during the months of winter.
The comfort of Mrs. Orr's home has been thoroughly enjoyed by officers of the brigade headquarters staff. .Had it not been for her kindness they would have had to rough it in sheds, outhouses and tents. This they were, of course, fully prepared to do, but Mrs. Orr insisted that she wanted to make a personal sacrifice as part of her war effort. On cold nights some of the officers haye cllmbeu up the hill and brought Mrs. Orr down from her tent to the comfort of her own fireside, entertained her with her own radio, and given her supper served in her own crockery! "If everyone did as much for our war effort as Mrs. Orr has done," said a senior officer, "New Zealand's part in the war would be beyond criticism."
