OFFENCES BY PAINTER

(0.C.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. John Crosbie Home, painter, pleaded guilty to 11 charges before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in New Plymouth. The magistrate reserved sentence. It was stated that the offences took place in various parts of the North Island, including Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Whakatane, Waihi and Morrinsville. Home's methods consisted chiefly of stealing bicycles and selling them under an assumed name. Seven of the offences were of this nature, while two were of stealing 10/ and £12 10/ in Auckland. He obtained the money by offering to paint houses, and then disappeared as soon as the money was advanced to him. He had had 38 previous convictions since 1932.
