CHANGE OF NAME
REFUSAL OP APPLICATION (0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Reference to the Wellington Acclimatisation Society's proposed alteration of-name was made by Mr. L. O. H. Tripp in his presidential address at tne annual meeting of the society. The suggested title was "Wellington Wild Life Control and Acclimatisation Society." The application for registration of the new title was refused by the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr. Tripp claimed that the activities of the society went beyond acclimatisation.
"Our society has always taken a very keen interest in the preservation of native birds," he said. "For years the planting of trees which provide birds' food supplies has been advocated by the council, and the Wellington society is mainly responsible for the fish research which is being undertaken in New Zealand to-day. We many years ago realised the importance of 1* water fish research."
