One result of the war-time demand for currency has been to increase considerably the Commonwealth Government's profits on notes and coins. Silver coinage brought in a P r °fit P 1 £730.031 in 1040-41. compr.rsd with £ 172.273 in the prevoius vcar: and bronzr coinage resulted in a profit of £2?.441. compared with £8155. The profit arises from the difference between thcost of the metal and workmanship in til" coin.; and their fa l -? value. The Australian no L e iss'ryielded a net profit of £1.:51,833. compared wi.ii £ 985,993 in 1933-40.
