TAUPIRI COAL MINES
SATISFACTORY OPERATIONS Congratulations on the results of the year's operations were offered to shareholders by Mr. E. W. Alison, chairman of directors, at. the 43rd annual meeting of Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd.. to-day. Notwithstanding that the company had to pay over 14 in the £ on its profits, he said, there was sufficient left to lustify a dividend of 1 3 a share. This result had been attained only bv careful management. ! The year's output of coal amounted to 211.282 tons. an. increase of 18.000 tons ever the previous year. This increase was largely cs.:e ;o 'he Alison mine, which continued to devtlop most satisfactorily, the seams beine and ot exceptional good quality. The Waßa'o Carbonisation Company was now largely enlaced m producing fuel for gas producers, enpbling the sinr of large quantities of petrol. The fuel produced was the most satisfactory in .he world for the purpose, and New Zealand was fortui.a'.e that the plant was available. The works -vers established without Government assistance, ani afforded an i example of converting waste into a valuable I product. Concluding Mr. Alison p2id a uavm tribute to staffs both at the mine and office. The report and balance-sheet, details of which were published on May 16, were adopted, and Messrs. J. B. Donald and C. I. Nathan, the retiring directors, were re-elected.
