RUBBER FOR WAR

FACTOKY IN AI'CKLANI) A reclamation plant for old rubber is to begin operation in Auckland next month. The factory belongs to Reid (New Zealand) Rubber Mills, Limited, who, foreseeing a possible emergency, ordered plant from abroad more than a year ago. All except one or two machines have been installed in the factory, which is not far from the Penrose works. A considerable stock of old rubber tyres, tubing and works waste collected over the years, is available for operations. It is suggested that every town should have a dump to which wornout tyres and other useful rubber articles could be delivered. The question of freight costs in some cases, however, is out, of all proportion to the value of the rubber collections, and it is considered that special rates of freight should be fixed to make supplies outside Auckland economically accessible.
