SUSPENSION SUGGESTED
FISH ACCLIMATISATION (0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. ' The suspension of fish acclimatisation in the Wellington Acclimatisation Society's district till further research has been made in the efficacy of the methods used was advocated by Mr. A. J. Seed in seconding the adoption of the annual report at the annual meeting of the society. "Research has cast doubt on the wisdom of our spending all our money on the fish," he said. He quoted the South Karori and Korokoro streams as having not had fish liberated in them for years, yet being among the best fish-populated the district. "I want someone to find out the reasons for this," he went on. "Instead of spending money for the next three years buying ova we should spend it on the appointment of a couple of returned soldiers with a love of wild life to go out and find tbese reasons, and at the same time clear some of the streams of eels." Mr. Seed concluded by saying that if the society found out by this means what were the best streams to liberate fish in it would be saving a lot of money.
