PRICES DOWN

VEGETABLES IN SHOPS

Vegetables are cheaper. After a long spell of high prices which have been the despair of most housewives, several popular lines are now selling at rates well within the average purse.

The extended summer with, until a few days ago, warm temperatures, is said to be responsible for increasing production of crops. Cabbage, carrots and kumaras are available in large quantities at the city markets and at fairly low prices, but this is usual at this time of the year.

I>ettuce, too, has been very cheap, and one wholesale firm reports that at the close of business one day they were literally giving away cases to customers. Onions and cauliflowers have been purchased at lower rates than for a long time, but the market for this has hardened lately.
