MARTUBA RAIDED
Enemy Camps And Planes As Targets MALTA STILL DOING WELL Rritish Official Wireless Rec. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, May 25. The latest R.A.F. Middle East communique says that enemy motor transport, encampments and grounded aircraft at Martuba were attacked by our aircraft during Saturday night. In daylight over the same area yesterday our fighter aircraft were again active, but the operations were curtailed by dust storms. It is now learned that a Messerschmitt 109 was shot down by our bombers in the Tobruk region on Saturday. Enemy aircraft operated over Malta yesterday morning, when our aircraft destroyed a Junkers 88 and two fighters. None of our aircraft is missing. General Sir Claude Auchinleck, who has no use for red tape, says a cable message, has sent a letter to the officers of his headquarters drawing attention to a letter written by the Duke of Wellington from Spain about 1810 to the Secretary for War, Lord Bradford. The Iron Duke said: "My Lord, if I attempted to answer the mass of futile correspondence surrounding me I should be ctebarred from all the serious business of campaigning." The Duke outspokenly referred to "the futile drivelling of mere quill-driving in your Lordship's office." General Auchinleck comments to his officers: "I know this does not apply to you, but please see that it can never be applied to you or to anyone working under you."
