DEFERRED
HOSPITAL ESTIMATES
DEPUTATION RECEIVED
After a long discussion, the Auckland Hospital Board decided last evening to defer adoption of its estimates for another two weeks.
A deputation from the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association, the Mayor of One Tree Hill and the association president, Mr. I. J. Goldstine. the Mayor of Mcunt Albert, Mr. H. A. Anderson, and the Mavor of Mount Eden. Mr. R. J. Mills, waited on the beard.
Mr. Goldstine said the new levy proposed was a staggering burden on the local bodies. The matter had been referred to the Prime Minister, who had promised consideration of the matter. Of the increased cost, £41,449 was in connection with military patients and social security payments. Under the circumstances Mr. Goldstine said that the deputation urged that the estimates should be adopted, less the amount of £41.449. It was considered that the Hospital Board had a case against the Government for a larger contribution towards the cost of maintaining social security and the whole cost of military patients. Mr. Mills said a £4000 increase for Mount Eden would mean an increase of 3d in the rates.
Mrs. M. M. Dreavor said that the Prime Minister had assured her that some assistance would be given.
