SUGAR PROFIT LOWER
SYDNEY. May 25. The report of the Colonial Sugar Refining Co., Ltd., lor the year ended March 31, shows that, after providing for depreciation, amounting to £ 386,990. and all other charges, the profit was £934.619. To this is added the balance brought forward. £482.219. The interim dividend paid in November, 1941. of 17/ a share absorbed £497.250, leaving available £919,588. The board proposes a final dividend of 17/ a share, which will require £497.250, leraving a carry forward of £422,338. The board's estimate of amount of cane available for crushing in Australia in the coming season is somewhat less than the amount crushed last year. In Fiji the quantitv is about the same. The annual meeting will be held on June 3. The profit shows a decrease of £119.712 on that of last. year. Reserves total £1,200,000. and no mention of a transfer this year is made in the cable. Dividend of 8 J 2 per cent is unchanged and absorbs £994,500. which is £59.881 in excess of the net profit. At £11.700.000. the paid capitai is the second largest of any company in Australia.
