MILK INDUSTRY
CHRISTCHURCH CONTROL
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Full control of the milk industry within the Christchurch zoning district is to be sought by the Christchurch City Council, with representation from the Suburban Local Bodies' Association. This decision was made to-night by the council, which adopted proposals providing for the licensing of retail vendors, compulsory tuberculin testing of all herds, closer inspection, and more frequent testing of supplies, and the fixation of prices for milk and cream by the Price Tribunal. Special legislation enabling establishment of a Christchurch milk district will be sought by the council, which will give further consideration to a proposal to ask the Government to re-enact wartime measures adopted for the citv in 1917. The council decided to recommend ? the Department of Agriculture the appointment of additional inspectors—two of the council's inspectors are now on loan to the department and additional staff for the Gov-
eminent analyst to test milk samples. Compulsory tuberculin testing is to be accompanied by full compensation by the department for condemned animals. The council also urged the provision of facilities for vendors to have milk samples analysed at a nominal cost.
