REDUCED KILLINGS
SOUTHLAND FAT LAMBS (0.C.) DUNEDIN, this day. Fat lamb killings in Southland for the present season have been below those for the same period of the previous season, and it is considered likely that the total reached when the works close wiil not touch the record figures of last year, when about 1,600.000 sheep and lambs were killed. The season has not been so favourable for fattening as last year, and supplies arriving at the freezing works at present are intermittent. Although the total output for the season may be reduced, it is probable that the killing season will be longer. There are still fairly large numbers of lambs which growers hope to fatten before the closing of the works, and it is probable that sufficient numbers of lambs will be available to keep the works open until almost the end of .Tune.
The killing of cattle is proceeding steadily, and it is possible that supplies will continue until a later date than usual. The works will remain open to kill cattle as long as sufficient supplies are offering
