HOSPITAL LEVY

OPPOSITION TO INCREASE FRANKLIN COUNTY DECISIONS The Franklin County Council yesterday, after hearing a report from its chairman. Mr. .1. N. Massev, M.P., that the Prime Minister, Mr. Eraser, had agreed to receive a deputation of local body representatives on the question of the proposed increase in the levy by the Auckland Hospital Board, passed the following resolution:—"That the chairman be authorised to advise the Prime Minister that the council is of the opinion that the proposed increase of 50 per cent in the hospital levy cannot be found by county ratepayers. and if imposed will divert revenue from road maintenance. The council is also of opinion that the total cost of patients from the Fighting Forces and all additional hospital expenditure caused by the operation of the Social Security Act should be found by the "War Expenses Account and the Social Security Account respectively, as there is no justification for any portion of these costs being a charge on county ratepayers."
