U.S. FORCE ESTABLISHED
NEW CALEDONIA'S STRENGTH j NEW YORK, May 24. The American troops in New Caledonia are now a thoroughly established fighting force, completely adjusted to their environment and well ?n the way Unmaking this island an impregnable United Nations' stronghold, says the New York Times correspondent at Noumea. The army is now in battle positions, keen and ready to meet the Japanese, the correspondent adds The Americans are strong in numbers and splendidly equipped, with everything from tommy-guns to artillery. They are now strenuously engaged in increasing preparations for the conflict, strengthening defences and training for the bush warfare that the New Caledonia countrvside will demand.
