MEAT WORKERS' BUSES
I would like to draw attention to a genuine grievance under which the Otahuhu freezing workers residing in the city are smarting because of the inadequate bus service organised for the conveyance of Hellaby's Westfield workers leaving Grafton Bridge at 6.30 a.m. Briefly, the facts are: we are required to be at the works by 7, and as there are not sufficient buses, these become overloaded; we are packed together like sardines in a tin; some are left behind to wait half an hour in the winter's cold till the next bus arrives; some of us are suffering from physical disabilities due tn past accidents. I feel that Mr. E. Phelan, head of the transport service, is personally sympathetic to the workers, and now that attention has been drawn to the discomforts that are so annoying to us, I am confident he will look into the matter and have the position remedied. PERCY CHAPMAN.
