ADMIRAL GHORMLEY

VISIT TO WELLINGTON _ Vice-Admiral R. L. Ghormley, U.S.N., United Nations commander of the South Pacific area, left for Wellington last night. Captain J. P. Olding, United States naval observer in New Zealand, Captain de W. Peck, United States Marine Corps, Lieu-tenant-Commander L. M. Le Hardy, and Flag-Lieutenant J. W. Wintle accompanied him. Vice-Admiral Ghormley was the guest of honour at a private dinner given by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, at the Grand Hotel on Saturday evening. Other guests included members of the admiral's staff, and New Zealand naval, military and air officers.
