MISS MATILDA WRIGHT

In the death of Miss Matilda Wright, aged 84, at her residence. 65, Church Street, Devonport, another link in the chain of early settlers is broken. The second daughter of the late John Wright, of Kilburn, London, she came to New Zealand with her mother and stepfather,* Captain Gerald Butler Beere. of H.M. 15th Foot, in the sailing ship Hellvellyn, arriving on November 17, 18G3. A year later the family went to Hamilton in H.M.S. Rangiriri with the pioneers, being met by Captain Beere, who was at the time in charge of the 4th Waikato Regiment. During the latter years of her life, Miss Wright resided at Devonport.
