SAVING TO CONSUMERS That the reductions in electricity charges to consumers during the past financial year had represented ian »aggregate saving to them of £65,000 was mentioned by the chairman'of the Auckland Electric Power 'Board, Mr. S. J. Harbutt, in his annual statement to the board this afternoon. At the same time, he said, the consumption of power in the board's area had increased by 16,600.000 units, or about 6 per cent. Assistance given by the board to its employees serving with the armed forces, or to dependents, had cost £2804 for the year. At the end of March there were 109 employees in uniform, 26 being overseas. Curtailment of meter reading, for staff reasons, might have to be carried further, said Mr. Harbutt.
Estimates for the year 1942-43 showed that the board anticipated a total ; revenue of £891,177, compared with : £894,131 - earned in the past year. The board budgeted for a surplus of-£59,989.
