AUCKLAND SEASON
CHEQUE OF £1,770,742
A record wool clip, which had been handled with very little inconvenience, despite war conditions, was announced by the Auckland Wool Brokers' Association yesterday. The wool cheque distributed in the Auckland province this season amounted to £1,770,742. The previous record was £1,653,092, for the 1940-41 clip. The season's aggregate is reached by the payment this week of £384,835 for wool valued at the final appraisement.
The quantity of wool handled in the province this season also established a new peak level. In six appraisements 103,612 bales were valued, against 95,430 bales in the previous season.
At the final appraisement, held w^o A s ri , 1 28 to Ma y h a total of 22,988 bales was handled with a net weight of 8,062,8551b. the average Price was £16 14/11 a bale or 11.46 d per lb.

G. Binney, commenting on the returns yesterday, said the season had been very satisfactory for the farmers, ine efficient co-operation of the Railway Department had helped considerably in the handling of the clip. . "The growth of the wool industry in recent years," he added, "has been very gratifying, and has brought Auckland well into the line as one of the leading wool-producine centres of the Dominion."
