Challengers Take Jordan Pins And The Edwin Bowling Stars

(By TRUNDLER) Bowlers had Remarkable luck on Saturday, after the storm and heavy rain the previous afternoon and all night, for it cleared up just in time for most greens to recover and allow pleasant games in warm sunshine. The Stanley holders of the Denison Pins, however, gave early notice that their green was soaking wet. so no game was played, and the next challengers remain in the order announced: W. Carson, A. Pedersen, W. Hepworth, P. R. Thomson (Rawhiti), J. C. Duncan (Remuera), L. G. Grace (Onehunga). Transport soon decided that their green was unlikely to dry early enough to play the Jordan Pins match, so they booked a rink at Hillsboro, where both greens have a remarkable capacity for drying quickly. The game opened evenly for the first five pnds: then the score went in favour of the challengers, although the contest was quite a good one, and keener than the big margin would suggest. Score: A. Peckston, E. H. Solomon. R. Knowles, C. T. Wadsworth (Mangere), challengers, 24 v. J. Garrett, T. Walker, R. Muldoon, E. C. Jeffrey 12. The new holders will defend the trophies at their own green, and may expect a St. Helier's rink in charge of J. Maud. By a coincidence the score In the other Mangere game was also 24 to 12, but in their case it went r.gams; them in their attempt to win the Diggers' Bndges: W. H. Zuill, L. Jones. R. Cross. S. Vella fOnehimsa) 24, v. W. Hunt. D. H. Robertson. Lundie, W. H. Banks (Mangere), challengers,

This made Onehunga's tenth win In this event, but it is not the record, as the same third and skip, with different associates, had a run of 13 wins in 1939 before losing to Ellerslie. Whether they beat their own record or not. the same two hold a record which nobody can take away, in that they won the first contest for these trophies, defeating a Carlton rink, which appropriately included the son of the donor, Mr. D. Dickson.

The champion-of-champions rink of the Western Suburbs Association had a splendid contest for the Edwin Stars. They tied on the third, sixth, eighth and thirteenth ends, and the game was virtually settled by Livingstone running out his own bowl when attempting to save one of the many heads that had worked up against him. This misfortune made a difference of four, and the lead was not again recovered: W. Neave. R. Boag. F. W. Breckon, F. Dyson (Hallyburton Johnstone), challengers, 27. v. J. W. T. Macklow. T. A. George. H. A. Robertson, F. Livingstone (Onehunga) 21.

The new holders will play on their own creen and will meet a team in charge of J. A. Robertson (Waitcmata). followed by T. R. George (Epsom) and G. Clark (Mount Albert).

The origfnal winners of the Had win Pins have again justified their success in the executive fours at Easter by defeating a strong team from Ensom: A. E. Clinkard. J. R. Molloy, H. B. Jenkin. S. Jenkin (Carlton) 22. v. T. R. Georee, C. Scott. F. W. Wilson, E. T. Richmond (Epsom), challengers, 18.
