WAR LOAN.

COMPUTATION OF PATMENT. In ex-plaining tlie complexities of war loan finance a misleading statement crept into these columns yesterday, when it was stated that a taxpayer who had paid £53 13/4 by way of income tax last February would have to contribute £3 13/4. This is incorrect, in that the Minister has laid it down that contributions to the war loan must be calculated to the nearest multiple of £10. Hence such a contributor would have to find £10, plus the amount which he would ■have had to pay by way of income tax on ariy income tax' free* dividends.
