FALCON CUP FINAL.
TO-MORROW'S SOCCER GAMES
INTERESTING STAGE OF CHAMPIONSHIP. The Thistle XI. which surprisingly eliminated Comrades from the Falcon Cup, the Auckland Football Association's senior knock-out competition, will playMount Albert (the first division championship leader) in the Cup final at Blandford Part to-morrow. The curtain-raiser will be a championship match in which Comrades meet Eastern Suburbs. The St. Heller's side has been on the "up and up" lately, and had a recent win of 6—2 over Thistle. Fonsonby and Y.M.C.A. are to be opponents at Fowlds Park; while at Waikaraka the programme comprises the first round replay between Abels and Onehunga. The last-named club, by the way. was the 1939 Falcon Cup winner, but was knocked-out in the opening 1940 series by Comrades. The present positions in the championship are: Goals Ch. P. W. L. D. F. A. Pts. Mt. Albert G. 0.8. 15 H 1 3 73 21 25 Comrades 14 11 1 2 70 31 24 Ponsonby' 15 10 5 - 56 46 20 Abels 13 7 5 1 43 38 15 S hl !L 1S 5 7 3 31 37 13 North Shore 15 4 9 2 33 48 10 Y.M.C.A 14 16 7 29 51 9 Eastern Suburbs .15 4 10 1 43 74 9 Onehunga 14 2 11 1 31 63 5 *1939 winner.
After to-morrow's play Comrades wIU be "all square" with Mount Albert as far as the number of games played is concerned, as the latter club's Falcon Cup engagement with Thistle does not count for the championship. Each of the two leading sides has still another match to play on October s—Comrades v. Y.M.C.A. and Mount Albert li Onehunga. A glance at the .table will showthat if successful against Eastern Suburbs tomorrow, and Y.M.C.A. on October 12. Comrades will be the 1940 senior champion The intervening Saturday—October s—will5 —will be t evo^ e !? i? another challenge by Wellington for the English Trophy. AucKlanc won 2—l on July 6: but Wellington captured the Campbell Rose Bowl from Auckland, at Basin Reserve, on August 10 the score being 5—4 (after Auckland led 3—l at the interval).
