FISHING SEASON.
OPENING NEXT TUESDAY. FEWER LICENSES EXPECTED. The fishing season will open on Tuesday next, October 1. Prospects indicate that it will be a good season. So far it is difficult to say whether the sale of licenses will be greatly affected by the war. But one thing is fairlv certain— that this season anglers will" he considerably restricted in their a-tivities by the curtailment of petrol rations, and on this account a drop in the licenses taken out is expected. Short rations of petrol will mean that waters nearer to Auckland will lie even more heavily fished than last year. The nearest fishing to Auckland is Mangatangi. 80 miles away. It is suggested that to relieve the pressure on streams closer to Auckland that anylers should club together in threes and fours to pool the portion of their petrol ration thev are able to devote to fishing, and bv using one car instead of three or four, travel farther afield and at the t ame time save petrol.
It is also thought that fewer licenses ill be taken out this season since many anglers have gone overseas with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
