A message from Chungking, the Chinese capital, says the influential newspaper "Tα Kung-pao" states that Chinese military preparations have been Completed and the troops are •waiting orders to fight the Japanese in Indo-China. The Chinese say that Japan will be unable to attack them from Indo-China for at least a fortnight. They point out that the Chinese have destroyed Laokay bridge, and also sections of the Haphing-Kunniing railway. The Chinese Foreign Office has strongly protested to the French authorities in Indo-China against the agreement with Japan, and. asserted that "China is entitled to such measure* of self-defence as are deemed necessary."
It added that the French must bear the responsibility for the .consequences.
