THE FAMILY'S DETRACTORS.
The letter over the signature of "Modern Mother"' brought hack memories of my own early married life. Onr babies arrived very "close together and very often I had to listen to severe criticism and -was made to feel that I had been guilty of something criminal. That is over 40 years ago. and serves to show that the outlook on the subject of babies is not exactly new. Let one assure "Modern Mother"' that her turn is coming. She will find, as the years go by, that her childless contemporaries are more likely to envy her. Many of my critics belong to the childless brigade and appear to have arrived at the conclusion that they have missed the bns and are now facing with dread a lonely old age. "Modern Mother"' may miss something of the pleasures of life, bat she will live again in her children, and her compensation will come when she reaches the sere and yellow and will still have an interest in life through her children and grandchildren. GHANnFATBER.
