DOMINION DAY.

NEW ZEALAND OBSERVANCE. Legal and some professional offices, all banks, the Stock Exchange and the Supreme Court were closed to-day in observance of the thirty-third annual celebration of Dominion Day. Schools are remaining open as usual'. As the name suggests, the celebration commemorates New Zealand's elevation from the status of a self-governing colony to that of a Dominion. This took place, by proclamation, on September 26, 1907. It has since become customary to celebrate Dominion Day on the Monday nearest to that date in each year.
