Vegetable Sowing
PEAS; beans, onions and par- . snips having been sown as recently advised, the preparation of the seed bed for the sowing of brassicas may; be taken in hand. Brussels ; sprouts, requiring a long period of activity, are among the first of the family to be sown outside. The ground being in workable condition, get the seed in early in September, follow-. ; ing on with sowings of cabbage, early savoy, cauliflowers and autumn broccoli. A dressing of soot should be applied before raking the surface fine and level and -drawing the. drills a* foot apart. Each kind' should be labelled as sown, pains being taken to sow thinly. Netting or black cotton (stretched to stakes) affords protection from birds. This precaution should be taken immediately after sowing. ' 1
