MAKING THE BEST OF IT.
"Appreciative Mother" strike* tfc» right note in her appeal for folk* to make the beat of things tli«*e days. It'e a, strange fact that while most people like to sir their discontent i* the papers, those who should express* their gratitude for the conditions under which most New Zealanders live jut don't bother to say so, but take thinya for granted. How would it do for everyone to deny themselves a luxury every other week and donate the money eaved to the "Star , *" Heart-to-Heart Appeal? The odd shilling would soon mount up and would be a very «maU sacrifice compared' with what our wartorn English friends are making. • >Ef-AS-MUCH. _/ Tell "Mother of Tftree" not to worry. I have reared seven boys and two girls, and now my bay* have left for over* «eas. I had ibetter views for them wh« they were all little and for year* I have tried t<> «iet a home together and a house for them. * Xow. just as T pit these thinp* together, they are taken from me. Oh, Avell, I come from Eng- -■■ : land, and we are a fighting race. I know what it ie to be in England in wartime, having come out here during , the last war. Tell "Mother of Three" she does not have to have her children - taken from her wlnle her husband 'foj* one way, ehe another and toe children j another, not knowing whether any of them will see one another again. I'hav* ' left mother, father, sisters, etc., in Eng* land. True, we are taxed here, tint why worry? We are not rationed for nrnit, -• tea, eugar, etc., nor do we have to lies up for coupon*. Wβ don't even know there is a war on; we go to dances, M ■parties, foothail, theatres, tennis, get all I we want to eat, a good bed and a ni« fire on cold night*. I thought I )|%i lost all when I aaw my lovely hoy* f*. but I find 1 still have to e%irry on «»i . look forward to them eomine **«*• MOTHER OF ICINE.
