WOMEN SUFFRAGE. ANNIVERSARY LUNCHEON HELD. Three of the first women to record their votes were present at a luncheon held yesterday in celebration of the 47th artniversary of the granting'of the franchise to women, on September 19, 1893. They were Miss Euphemia McQuarrie, who recorded the first woman's vote in Auckland, Mrs..Emily Gibson, authoress and former journalist, and Mrs. A. D'Arcy Hamilton, who exercised her firet vote in Taranaki.

The convener, Madame H. G. Milburn, read excerpts from the Press reports of the passing of the bill, and at 11.45, the time when the bill was signed by the Earl of Glasgow, presented a bouquet of flowers to Miss McQuarrie. Other speakers were Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, Mre. Hamilton, Mrs. Gibson, Mre. Ray Wynne and Mrs. W. E. Purdom. They recalled that New Zealand was the first country in the world to grant women the vote, and paid tributes to the Franchise League, which was largely responsible for the success of the movement.
