"THE WESTERNER."
CIVIC FEATURE FILM.
There is no romance to equal the romance of the Old West and it is shown at its beet in "The Westerner," the feature that opens a season at the Civic Theatre on Friday. It is a magnificent starring vehicle for the ever-popular Gary Cooper, who handles the leading role in a wonderful manner. This is a story about the old days of the cattle range*, when the homesteader, who wanted to introduce "woollies" on what were formerly unfenced ranges, had to fight hie way through thick and thin to gain hie ends. The story in the film deals with the attempt to till that land that lies west of the Pecce River in Texas and it contains all the beet elements of the real ! Western drama. Here are the hard-ehoot-I ing, hard-drinking, hard-riding men with whom we are all familiar. Here are the J eayuses, the sage and the mesa, and the I bitter fueds that were carried on in the cattle country when the sun was the law, and the strongest took the spoils. It is a story full of the evilneee and good of I all mankind, and the tendernew aadl beauty, of women. '
