CALF-BUTCHER'S VIEW.
"Merciful" in his complaint refer* to "baby" calves. The baby has an inborn urge to euck. A bottle-fed baby craves exercise and gratifies his desire 'with thumb or dummy. Calves suffer bleeding months through sucking rough material. Bucket-fed calves, consistently suck after meals. If "Merciful" "never takes young people there again," he display* ignorance under- the guise of consideration. Does he appeal ftr help, or in his pain a personal one, to be cured by avoiding the sight? Carnivoroue man knows that fish, flesh, or fowl suffers "inconvenience" before past- j ing through his alimentary canal to hk ' soul. Bobby calf meat by ite immatarity is readily "flavoured" and lends «bV stance to various food pastes. Man k not cruel by Mature, but be is indifferent to of -w' suffering and-impatient of delay. These traits are fostered by competitive work, and the world market, upon which the economic life of the community depends. , Kin the deny industry or kill the calves. Beef is the adult calf. The continued iteratioa of calf-love in ■ the -midst of human slaughter and travail is sickening. One of the twain is worthy of team. In answer to the writer's question, "Is nobody interested enough to protest against such rough handling?* may I ask, "Isnt he,*" or w he parading an "admirable" compassion? . - ANTT-BIATHEB.
