SAXTON AT TRENTHAM.
In July a strong side from Trentham military camp. was defeated by the Wellington Rugby representative fifteen by 19 points to 17. On that occasion All Black J. M. Taylor's boot produced victory for the province, but owing to an injury in August he has not played in recent matches for the capital city's side. A return match was arranged for Athletic Park next Saturday, and on the subject of the "visiting"' combination a writer in the "Evening Post" stated:— Recent arrivals at Trentham Include C. K. Saxton. the New Zealand naif-back, who has represented South Canterbury. Otago and Southland, and who this season has played some of his football In Canterbury. He Is certain to be chosen for the match with Wellington. Again leading the team will be D. G. Barton, who recently gained his commission. His performances with the army side this year have been vary impressive, ' and he has proved himself to be a capable leader. R. G. Bush, who has represented Otago South Island, Auckland and New Zealand, is available, and Inst Saturday, against Bush District, he was the Army team's full-back. Three-quarters are in plentiful supply—N. Burns, A. L. McAneney, J. R. Sherratt, R. Natusch, and, if not needed as a five-eighth, D. G. Barton. E. Donovan (Bay of Plenty), who was an emergency for the North Island minor unions' team last season, gave an excellent account of himself as the Army team's full-back .hi one of the recent matches. There are others, too, as candidates, and'M. P. Grace (Southland) and K. A. Welsh (Wanganui) would, of course, receive serious consideration if they arrived In camp in time. They are expected there shortly. Of forwards there is also a strong batch, with J. Finlay (Manawatu) to lead them. Amongst the front-rankers are Lester (from Southland), Hodgson (from Walroa), Latham (from Taranakl) and M. Gomez (a Nelson and New Zealand University representative). Also now in camp is G B Purdue, a Southland and New Zealand representative forward, and he already has shown flnff form with the Army team. Then, there are F. H. Fraser-Smlth, R. Hansen and P. Harvey (Wellington), with A. G. Davidson (Wanganui) and D. M. Whlllans (Auckland. Canterbury and Wiineanui representative) expected to be available shortly.
