WOMEN'S HOCKEY.

KNOCK-OUT COMPETITION. FOUR ELEVENS STIU LEFT IN. The final competition of the 1040 seagon, the knock-out championship, began on Saturday, when three teams were eliminated. The remaining elevens are Mount Eden, University Blues, Wesley and Training College. Mount Eden was disappointing In Its display against Technical, the latter holding out well in the first spell, but weakening in the latter stages of the game. The play was even until a forceful attack by Eden saw Miss O. Cowle opening the score was a clean shot. The forward combination was poor, and Technical Intercepted repeatedly to turn attack into defence. A breakaway by Miss M. Sorby (centre forward) enabled Technical to equalise. Aimless hitting lost Mount Eden territorial advantage, but Technical was slow to make the most of the opportunities offering. Combination was reached by Eden near the calling of time, and Misses G. L&we. Cowle and Hunt added further scores. University Blue was not extended at any stage SV?en it won an easy victory over University White. Superior in every position, the "blues" played aggressively, and poor defence by the whites enabled the former to score repeatedly Scorers for Blue were K. Bilkey (3), J. McGechie (2) and B. Hooton. Training College overwhelmed Kiwi, which was fielding three short, and the final score was 12 0. V.A.T. Shield. The annual match between Rodney and Wesley for the V.A.T. shield, a trophy donated by Miss A. Twiname lor competition between these two XI s, resulted in a win for Rodney by the margin of two goals. The play ranged evenly, bill Rodney's combination and surer stickwork enabled it to dominate. After some snappy exchanges Rodney penetrated the defence to score its opening goal. A useful half-back game was played by Miss B. Adolf, who kept the attack well fed. Rallying well. Wesley combined for Mrs. T. Nicholson to finalise with an easy shot. After the second spell opened Rodney kept ud a relentless attack, excellent passing being exhibited by the forwards. Rodney s total of three goals was registered by Misses V. Booth, D. Hamilton and B. Barcker. Wesley failed to score again.
