(By TRUNDLER.)

HOLDERS RETAIN TROPHIES. DENISON PINS AND DIGGERS' , BADGES.

In the weekly inter-club challenge matches, last Saturday, in two cases the ! defenders only retained their trophies i with the very last bowl played. In the Denison Pins match it was the defending , skip himself, Harry Whittle (Grey Lynn), who ' I drew the shot r.gainst Waitemata for a tie with ~ his last bowl, when he was one down on the board i and one down on the head. The deciding shot in the Diggers' Badges was ! played by the challenging skip, J. C. Yeo. He 1 made one of his many fine drives, and connected as usual; but there was a general mix-up, and when the Jack eventually came to rest it was right alongside one of the opposing bowls. The final scores were:—W. H. Zulll, L. Jones, R. Cross, S. Vella (Onehunga), holders 20, v. H. Head, A. L. Nugent, L. J. Ayre, J. C. Yeo (Rocky Nook), challengers, 16. The next challengers are T. H. Stringer (Hlllsboro), W. Horscrott (Transport) and L. Shine (Grey Lynn). In the Denison Pins match the Waitemata visitors soon established a good lead. This was largely due to Grant's accuracy, but before long it was countered by Caddy recovering his usual touch, and this reduced the surplus to one for the last end. Waitemata actually held the shot for a win. but Whittle played a firm draw, got a rub off a wing bowl and continued far enough to lie shot for a tie. Scores: w. McMurchy .R. C. Caddy. E. E. Buckley, H. Whittle (Grey Lynn), holders, 21, v. J. Setters, A. Grant. L Dick, J. A. Robertson (Waitemata), challengers! 6. Walker, W. Hattan, A. Humphreys, T. H. A. Walker (Mount Albert), are next for a tilt at the trophies, followed by J. R. Lundon (Devonporti and A. Hitchen (Stanley). Easy Victory For Carlton. The story of the Edwin Stars match is soon told, for the holders were ahead all the way except when the Onehunga visitors scored a 5 to draw level on the first and only occasion. Their position became so bad that ones and twos would have been useless, and drives for a big score left the Onehunga players sometimes with hardly I a bowl on the green. Officially the game was j recorded with a margin of eleven; E. J. Hill R. Higgott, H. B. Jenkin, C. Little (Carlton)! holders, 25, v. W. Whittaker, J. W. F. Macklow H. A. Robertson, H. E. Welham (Onehunga)' challengers, 14. The next challengers are C. J. Moon, L. L. Joll, L. Joll, A. E. Harland (Mount Eden), who won the final of the Auckland Club's tournament last Saturday, with A. J. Kemp Instead of L. L. Joll as No. 2. They will be followed by W. Ure (Auckland) and Walter Franks (Balmoral). HUlsboro Loses Jordan Pint. A complete reversal of form was shown by the HUlsboro rink, which had won the Jordan Pins in a splendid game the previous week, for the Mangere visitors last Saturday won the first four ends and never looked like losing, except when the holders secured a lour on the tenth end. To this Mangere's reply was to win the next five ends in a row, and finish nine points up Scores: W. H. Banks, E. H. Soloman, G. Laslett, J. A. Granger (Mangere), chaUengers, 24, v. R Hoppy, J. J. Preston. E. E. Blikey, J. Clarke (Hillsboro). holders, 15. The winning club will defend the trophies on the Onehunga green next Saturday, the challenger being J. C. Taplin (Transport) If victorious Mangere will defend "at home" on September 28. when the green is to reopen. On Saturday week there wIU be the annual reunion of former Otago and Southland bowlers on the Auckland Club's greens.
