ACTIVE MONTH.
PLUNKET SOCIETY. KARITANE HOSPITAL REPORT. An active month was reported at the monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society held at headquarters yesterday morning. The president, Mr. J. C. Allan, presided. The following new members who were appointed at the annual meeting were present and were welcomed: Messrs. H. Burrell, R. H. Clark, H. Culpan, W. E. Parry and E. W. Purdom. The report of Miss H. Chapman, nurse in charge, showed that in the pre-natal department 59 new expectant mothers had been seen, 413 return visits had been paid to the department, and there were 271 expectant mothers under supervision. In the post-natal department 320 new baby cases had been seen, 14.")7 visits had been paid to homes, while 11,967 mothers and babies had visited the various offices. Nine mothercraft talks had been given to outside organisations. Miss S. Lu&k, matron of the Truby King Karitane Hospital, reported that 17 mothers and 27 babies had been admitted in August. Through lack of accommodation it had been necessary to refuse admission in all departments. The nurses in training had given the bathing demonstration several times to appreciative audiences. A donation of £2 2/6 from the Taumarunui branch to the funds of the hospital was acknowledged. The committee approved of the appointment of Miss V. Syere to the permanent sta3. Mrs. Alan Donald, convener of the sub-committee, reported progress with preliminary arrangements for the photographic exhibition. It was stated that permission had been received from the Department of Internal Affairs for the raffling of an original signed etching by the late Sir Alfred East, which had been given by Mrs. Alan Donald for this purpose. Poison and the matron; sewing committee, Mesdames A St Clair Brown, H. O. Wiles (joint' conveners), A. J. Beck, A. Campbell, L. C H. Daweon, H. Brewer, F. Noakes A Paykel, T. Spry, R. M. Webster. '
