ENGINEERS' PAY.
ANOMALY ALLEGED. AWARD CHANGE SOUGHT. Application was made to the Arbitration Court to-day, on behalf of the Northern District marine engineer*, to hare the award amended in respect to the wages of engineers on motor vessels exceeding 120 h.p. Mr. J. Clark said that the scale in the award presented the anomaly of the. engineers' wages being sharply dropped on motor vessels of high horse-power. The scale provided payment of £29 a month „pn vessels of 30 to 60 h.p., and up to £34 10/ a month on vessels between 100 h.p. and 120 b.p., and then dropped to £30 10/ a month for vessels of 150 h.p. to 200 h.p. Mr. W. E. Anderson reminded the Court that the circumstances were the same now as when the award was made. Only one vessel in Auckland was affected, and the engineer on that vessel was receiving more than the award rate. The Court reserved its decision.
