PUBLIC WORKS PAY.
In replying to "Not a Twister," I shall give the facts which he omitted when comparing other labourers' rate of pay with that of the Public Works Department labourers. The rate of 2/1J per hour is correct, but here are concessions which the other in question do not receive—lo hours per week, wet and dry» time and a job found for them per _ medium of the Placement Office .or the union. After completion of two years' - unbroken service with the Public Work* Department the worker receives 10 paid annual holidays, as well as an extra three days for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. He also receives eight further paid holidays during the year. The correspondent should consider these figures before attacking the. Public Works Department. He works 243 days out of 365 days per year and receives 261 days' pay. Even on some jobs to-day .the Public Works Depart-'•-'■fj ment men receive travelling time paid. BARE FACTS.
