HEAVY CABBAGE STOCKS. ISLAND TOMATOES ARRIVE. Heavy supplies of cabbage were available at the City auction markets to-day, and prices were low. Good stocks o£ cauliflower were also available, and were disposed of at late rates. Choice lines of pumpkin realised a good return. Small consignments of green peas and beans were available, selling at high prices, while for greater quantities of asparagus the market was a little lower. In the fruit section there was a good demand for winter pears but, following the arrival of Island tomatoes, rates for the local hothouse crop recoded. There was a fair sale for tree tomatoes. Prices were: — VEGETABLES. Prices were:—Asparagus. 9d to 1/9 per bundle; beet, 6d to 1/ per dozen; celery, cooking. 6d to 1/ per bundle; dessert. 1/3 to 3/3; carrots. 1/6 to 4/6 per bag, or M to 1/ per dozen: cauliflowers. 4/ to 5/6 per sack; on benches, 2/ to 4/ per dozen; cabbages, 1/ to 4/6 per sack: on benches. 1/ to 1/6 per dozen; cucumbers, hothouse. 7/ to 9/6 per dozen; hothouse beans. 1/ to 2/3 per lb; green peas, 9d to 1/6 per bag; kumaras. Island. 2d to 3d per lb: Tauranga. II to 9/ per bag; leeks, 3d to 4d per bundle; lettuce, 2/ to 8/6 per case; marrows. 2/6 to 3/6 per sack; onions, choice, 6/ to 8/ per bag; medium, 4/6 to 5/6: potatoes, southern, 5/ to 6/ per cwt; Ohakune. 2/6 to 3/6 per bag; new, 2d to 4',id per lb; pumpkins, choice Triumble. 12/ to 18/ per sack: medium, 5/ to 10/; parsnips. 3/6 to 6/6 per bag, or 1/ to 1/6 per dozen; radish, lid to 3d per dozen; rhubarb, 3/6 to 6/6 oer dozen; spinach, 9d to 1/6 per dozen; soring onions, 1/ to 1/6 per bundle; swedes, 2/ to 3/ per bag; turnips, 6d to 9d per dozen. FRUIT. Prices were:—Apples: Red Delicious, 8/ to 9/6 per case; Cranny Smith, 8/ to 9/6: Delicious, 8/ to 9/6; Sturmer, 8/ to 10/. Pears: Winter Nells 14/ to 16/ per case; P. Barry. 9/ to 11/6. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 1/6 to 1/10 per lb. Oranges: Cook Islands. 16/ to 21/6 per case. Bananas: Repacked. ripe. 25/ per case. Tree tomatoes: New Black. 8/ to 12/6 per case; small, 5/ to 6/6; Yellow. 6/ to 10/. Marmalade oranges: 6/ to II per case. Grapefruit: New Zealand, ex. fancy, 8/ to 10/ per case; others. 6/ to 11. POULTRY. At to-day's auctions the "supply of poultry was Just fair and the demand was keen. The prices remained the same as last week. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime. II to 8/ each; not prime. 5/ to 6/; light breeds, prime, 5/ to 6/: not prime. 2/6 to 4/. Fat hens: Heavy breeds. 5/ to 7/; light breeds, 4/ to 5/6. Drakes: Young, prime. 4/ to 5/. Ducks: Young, 4/ to 51. Geese: 4/6 to 5/6. Turkeys: Hens. 6/ to 8/; gobblers. 10/ to 18/. Cockerel chicks: Heavy breeds. 3d each; light breeds. Id. EGGS, FARMERS' BUTTER, CUT FLOWERS. Eggs.—Hen: Standard grade. l/6',i a dozen. Duck: Standard grade. l/6>,2. Farmers' Butter.—l/ 2 to 1/5 per lb. Cut Flowers.—Most lines of flowers to-day were very plentiful and cheap, the demand being poor. Small quantities of tulips and hyacinths sold well.
