WAR WIFE'S DIARY.
FIRST INSTALMENT. "N.Z. WOMAN'S WEEKLY." War, because of its very uncertainty, has a way of intensifying the simple pleasures of life and glorifying the humdrum everyday things that would pass unnoticed in the normal course of events. Every woman who has a husband "in a foreign field" will iaugh and maybe cry with the brave little authoress of the "Diary of a Xew Zealand War Wife," which begins in this week's issue of the "N.Z. Woman's Weekly." The diary is written in a crisp and pithy style and the authoress has that delightful spirit of humour and courage that is typical of every British wife who has been left behind to "carry on." The modern trend in furnishings is described by our home decorating expert in an article in which the respective merits of built-in and unit furniture are summed up. Until recently furniture was of one type—the individual pieces that were to be found in every home. But now the type of furniture we choose depends on our living conditions and personal taste. Built-in furniture has its drawbacks as it cannot be moved when the family shift house, but the new unit type is easily moved and its arrangement can be altered to suit new surroundings. Owing to the tremendous response to the article on the value of prayer there is another on the same subject written by the editress and treated from a different angle. In addition there are the usual short stories and six useful free patterns from which readers can make their choice.
