The going on No. 1 grass was dead and cutting out at Te Rapa this morning when a number of candidates for Avondale were sent along. Several interesting trials were recorded, the best of the morning being those of Befcu Repaire, Hum-a-Song and Commemoration.'"' Beau Repaire (Ramsay), assisted over the first six furlongs by Marshall Hall (Hall), traversed seven furlongs In 1.36. They ran their first three in 38s, the half mile in 52',is, five furlongs in I.SVx and the six In 1.30%. Beau Repaire was always doing the better of the pair and pleased by the manner in which he wag revelling in his work. Laughing Fox (Bartle) and Olympus (MeKenzie) were associated over half a mile in S3 4-Ss. The former, who was raced only lightly last season, has furnished into a fine stamp of three-year-old, and Interest will attach to his progress'from now on. A. useful effort over five furlongs was credited to Hum-a-Song and Commemoration, who negotiated the distance in 1.6',i, running to the half mile in SI 4-ss. Gaines Choice (winder) and Aguilla (Hain) got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7, the first half mile in 535. Gael (McGregor) ran once round in 2.14 4-ss. The Nightly three-year-old in the Seifert stable dashed over two furlongs along the back in 265. He is coming to hand well. Lornacre (Mclnally) ran to the half mile In 55 4-ss. Poutama (McKenzie) was restricted to strong pace work on the sand.
