AUCKLAND THIRDS DEFEATED AT PUKEKOHE. (By- Telegraph.—Own correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Saturday. The curtain was lowered 011 the Rugby season here this afternoon when two interesting games were staged. Papatoetoe fourths defeated South Auckland thirds by 14 points to 3, and South Auckland juniors outpointed Auckland third intermediate reps, to the tune of 1C points to t>. The second game was more evenly contested than the scores indicate, being fast and spectacular. The South wore the first to score, E. Moyle getting a try after a mistake by the visiting backs. In the second quarter King evened the scores from a passing bout by cleverly cutting in. South attacked with vigour. Following a scrum, Wallis dived across and converted, making the half-time score: South Auckland 8, Auckland 3. South widened the gap when A. Moyle crossed and E. Moyle converted. South were throwing the ball about when Davidson intercepted and scored for the visitors. A forward rush by South ended in Kidd touching down. The final score was: / South Auckland IS Auckland 6 OTAKI CUP-CONTEST. SHIPPING COMPANIES' SUCCESS. Keen play was seen in the Otaki Cup contest at the Showgrounds on Saturday. Teams representing the shipping • offices, His Majesty's Customs, Harbour Board and Customs House agents competed. In the first match of the series, in which the Shipping and Customhouse Shield was at stake, the shipping offices were successful, by 13 points to 3, thus retaining the trophy. A splendid game was provided by the I Customs agents, and Harbour Board, the former winning by 16 points to 9. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE. Saturday. The curtain was rung down on football at Morrinsville to-day, when Waihi was beaten) 33 points to 3. The game was very one-sided, Morrinsville outplaying the visitors in all departments. For the winners, K. Campbell scored three tries, Anderson two, and A. Cameron, C. Cameron and D. Campbell one each. G. Marshall converted three; tries, and kicked a penalty goal. Waite scored for Waihi. NORTHCOTE CLUB. The Northcote and Birkenhead Rugby Union * Football Club, formed onlythis year,'-has every reason to feel satisfied-with its efforts to advance the game in these districts. The final game of the Rugby season was ninvprt in clear, cold weather at Rugby Park Whangarei lost the Brake Shield Captured by them earlier from Manganuibj four points to nil to Northern Wairoa. A stiff wind interfered with-play. Whangarei attacked consistently for the greater part of play, but great tackling and bustling won the day for the challengers. There was no score in the first half, but directly the game was resumed Sito potted a goal from half-way. Whangarei did not score until the last quarter, when A. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS WIN. MATCH AGAINST THAMES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. The Auckland Technical College Old Boys' team visited Thames on Saturday, and after a strenuous game in which both teams showed much dashing play, secured a onepoint victory, the scores being IS —17. The weather was fine, but chilly, and the High School ground in splendid order. , Technical kicked off, and after an exchange of kicks, pressed. Pollock was caught off-side and Harris goaled. Technical 3, Thames 0. A forward rush by Thames, 1 started by. Kinlock, had the visitors defending, and Lomas secured and forced his way over wide out. Winder missed with the kick. Play was in the centre for a while, until another movement was started by the Thames forwards, headed by Strange and Percy, the latter scoring near the posts. Winder goaled. Technical '3, Thames S. Technical again pressed, and from a penalty for obstruction D. Keane goaled with a fine kick from neat half-way. Technical 6, Thames 8. A fine back movement, in which Harris, Porteous, Liddle and Haslam participated, saw the latter beat_ Harrison and score near the corner. A. Keane was unsuccessful with the kick. Technical 9, Thames 8. Another passing run by the Technical backs ended by Couper being forced out near the corner, and the change over came with Thames hotly defending. After an exchange of kicks, the Technical •backs again got under way, but were stopped by Woofe, and the ball went out. A free kick to Thames in their .opponents' territory was taken by Winder, who just missed the uprights. From a scrum at mid field, Wells set the Thames backs going, and a long kick by Dufty caused Technical to force. Play centred for some time until A. Keane sent the leather to his backs, and the movement ended in Haslem scoring. _ D.; Keane failed to convert. ' While Technical were hotly defending, W. Pollock secured and' transferred to Wells, who dived over. Winder goaled. Technical 12, Thames 13. For the whole of the third quarter play was confined to the forwards, while several slight injuries to players held up the game. There were no further scores. At the start of the last session, attacking strongly. Technical had Thames defending, and from the ruek Rosevear secured and scored. Keane failed to goal. Technical 15, Thames 13. Thames forwards carried the game to their opponents' territory, and were awarded two penalty kicks, but Dufty was unsuccessful with both. A little later Dufty dropped a fine goal from the field. For the winners, tries were registered by Abbott (3), Connolly (2), Mcliae (1), Johnson (2), Lawrie (2)., and Blow (1). Three tries were converted by Butler, Hodge and Weir. .Fo? the losers, Lipsey scored two tries, one being converted by Rackham. In fine weather on a dry ground the Aucklanders played- one of the best, fastest and most open games witnessed here this season. Clean passing and clever tackling, combined with brilliancy in running, made their plav a treat to witness, and applaus? was frequent. Mr. A. Whatford was an eflicient referee. HAWKE'S BAY EASILY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE. Saturday. A representative Rugby match between Hawke's Bay and Wanganui was played here to-day in-the presence of a big attendance in fine, weather.
